Since Ard Wubben started his tomato nursery in 1984, his company has grown consistently in size. In around 1995, he was one of many growers to make the switch from beef tomatoes to tomatoes on the vine; a result of German criticism at the time which unfairly referred to Dutch tomatoes as ‘Water bombs'. “Back then it was a hype, as they had more flavour." Now he’s a seasoned grower of tomatoes on the vine.
Ard is driven to deliver a fantastic product. Every tomato he grows is sold through Oxin Growers to a single buyer: Staaij. “I have a great relationship with them, we have fixed price agreements. Price wise, it’s better to have certainty, so I know where I stand. Oxin Growers play a vital role in this process, by arranging sales for me.” This allows Ard to focus solely on what he does best: growing tomatoes.
