When they first met in the 1960s, Jos’ father not only fell in love with his future wife, but also with her parents’ fruit growing business. Together, they started their own business, focusing on a diverse range of fruit and vegetables. Jos and his two brothers joined in 1983. He has since run the business independently for many years. Today, Fischer Fruits only produces pears and specialises in growing pears intended for long-term storage. Their main variety is Conference.
Jos enjoys being involved in the whole growing process, from pruning to picking. “I strive for efficiency and always look for an optimal balance between quantity and quality,” he says. The passion for fruit growing has filtered down to the next generation, as both his sons have joined the company. This provides Jos with added motivation to successfully manage his fantastic business, one with enormous future growth potential.
