Wouter Moerman comes from a family of growers. He grew up on the family business and started his own nursery in 2011. His main crop is beef tomatoes, but he also has space for cucumbers, strawberries and blueberries.

The high proportion of beef tomatoes and a focus on food service as a specific market, are unique aspects to his business. “Things have developed organically, our partnerships with food service customers via Oxin Growers has always been positive and it works smoothly." We supply a niche product to a regular group of small to medium sized businesses.

Like many growers, Wouter enjoys the variety his work has to offer. “I make all the important decisions myself, such as issues relating to the crop or wider issues such as energy investments. This is what I enjoy the most about my work.

Staff related issues are the only aspects of the business which we've outsourced. I have a wide range of interests and like the fact that I know the ins and outs of my company. I also really enjoy being able to join in any discussion relating to the horticultural sector. Good communication and contact with all involved parties - personnel, suppliers and customers - is integral to his approach.

“I’m also focused on improving sustainability, our biomass boiler being an example of this. Energy is a fascinating subject, which currently affects us all. Continuity is another important issue, something I deal with and work towards improving every day. I try to ensure that each task is performed to the highest possible level.”
